Local Training

Air Cadets at 581 Castlegar Sqn participate in a number of different training activities. Each cadet is placed in a Proficiency Level based on their Age, and are required to complete the mandatory and scheduled complementary training for their level. In addition to the required training cadets have the opportunity to participate in optional training such as Glider Familiarization Flights, Powered Aircraft Flights, Effective Speaking, First Aid, Range practice and extra-activities such as Duke of Edinburgh Program, swim nights, hikes, and overnight trips.

Below are the list of different subjects cadets receive lessons in at each level. Each topic will have a number of lessons that are experiential, such as Outdoor Survival, and classroom work such as Theory of Flight:

Cadets in Proficiency Level Five are employed as the Squadron’s Leadership and Instructional Team. They are required to complete some training, and attend professional development workshops (1 per year).
